Mole Removal
Moles, or Nevi are common skin growths that usually appear as small, dark spots on the skin but they can also be skin coloured. They are clusters of pigmented cells called melanocytes, which give them their characteristic color. Moles can develop anywhere on the body and vary in size, shape, and color. While most moles are harmless, some may turn cancerous over time. They often appear due to a combination of genetic factors and exposure to sunlight. Moles are common in people of all ages and skin types but tend to be more prevalent in individuals with fair skin and those with a family history of moles. Regular skin checks and monitoring changes in moles are essential for early detection of any suspicious growths.
If you suspect you have a mole that requires removal and would like to be treated, then cryotherapy may be suitable for you.
Disclaimer: Patients must have moles seen by their GP prior to booking a cryotherapy appointment.
What is a typical treatment?
We use a Cryopen, a medical device that uses controlled sprays of nitrous oxide gas to freeze the mole. This causes the cells in the lesionto die and over the coming days the mole will scab and naturally fall off. Cryotherapy works well on these lesions however larger lesions may require several treatments to be fully removed. Your clinician will discuss this with you at your appointment.
