G6PD (Glucose-6-Phosphate Dehydrogenase) is an enzyme that helps red blood cells function properly by protecting them from damage. Some people are born with G6PD deficiency, a genetic condition that makes their red blood cells more fragile.

This blood test is important to have before starting high dose Vitamin C infusions due to the risk of haemolysis (red blood cell breakdown).

You only need to have a G6PD blood test once before starting Vitamin C infusions with us.

  • The G6PD test measures the levels of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) enzyme in the blood. This test is used to diagnose G6PD deficiency, a genetic disorder that affects the red blood cells.

G6PD deficiency is more commonly found in males, as it is an X-linked genetic disorder. However, females can also be affected if they inherit the defective gene from both parents. It is important to consider the gender of the individual when interpreting the results of the G6PD test, as males with G6PD deficiency are more likely to experience symptoms and complications compared to females
